Essential oils are part of an old Egyptian healing method called aromatherapy which believes that certain fragrances can lift one's moods and make you feel better. Added to that, they also have medicinal properties and can be used to relieve certain health issues. Now, apart from the above, you can lead a trouble-free life by using essential oils around the house in these ways:

As an air freshener: By just using a few drops of essential oils, you can make your entire living room fragrant. Spray it on your carpets or in the air and your entire house will smell sweet and fresh. Try using rose geranium oil to get rid of sweaty shoe odors and pet odors. In the bathroom, mix 10 drops of aromatherapy oils with a cup of water and spray anywhere you wish, but do not rinse.

As a cleaning agent: Using these oils around the house is really very easy. Lemon essential oil helps polish your utensils, decorative items and copper pots. Since citrus cleans off grease well, you can use grapefruit, lemon or lime essential oils to your cleaning water to get rid of grease from your counter tops, fridge or stove and stains from the floor. So that your house smells sweet, add some aromatherapy oils to your cleaning water and inside cabinets where the aroma will linger.

As a shampoo and rinse: If you want to encourage your hair to grow and have sheen, add rosemary oil to your shampoo. By adding lavender oil to your soap, you can feel relaxed, and if you've got aching muscles, soothe them with lavender oil. You can also opt to use soaps with essential oils, or pour out a few drops of the oil into your bath and enjoy it as it calms your nerves and takes away that tired feeling.

As a pest repellant: If flies and moths bother you, using essential oils around the house will help get rid of them. Dab lavender oil onto a cotton ball and put it among your clothes and things in your cupboards. Continue to dab it on anywhere these pests reside. If mosquitoes bother you, try citronella essential oil by placing it in oil diffusers. For repelling mice and small rodents, use peppermint oil.

As an antiseptic: Some aromatic plants have antiseptic properties, such as pine, thyme, tobacco, hop, rosemary, peppermint, maize, poplar, orange blossom and poppy.

As a peppermint spray to kill mice: You can also get rid of pests and rodents by using essential oils around the house. Take advantage of the fact that mice do not like peppermint and use it to kill them. You can do this by adding two teaspoons of peppermint in a cup of water and spray those parts of your house where mice are found.

As a sore throat remedy:If a member of your family or a friend has an infectious throat complaint, use eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender or myrrh for their strong antibacterial and antiseptic properties. They also relieve laryngitis and throat infections. One technique of relieving throat problems is to use steam inhalation. You can use these aromatherapy oils singly or in combination. Ideally, you could blend 2 drops each of chamomile and lavender and one drop of thyme.
